Two sets of wickets (one set of 3 stumps and 2 bails is also called a wicket) shall be placed opposite and parallel to each other at a distance of 22 yards/20.12m between the centers of the two middle stumps.

Note that according to the ICC Playing Conditions for international cricket all matches shall be played on natural turf pitches.
